Version 2.0 in Beta Testing

Version 2.0 is now in beta testing with selected existing customers. The version contains significant upgrades to the already popular LibraryWorld online library automation service. Some of the major enhancements are noted below.

  • New Google-like search features allowing easier and more powerful searching without worrying about indexes.

  • Catalog find sets can now be sorted by author, title or call number.
  • Multiple libraries can be searched at one time through the new user's home page.
  • A clipboard has been added to allow attaching a record from one or more libraries for later review or printing.
  • Global replace command allows updating fields in multiple records.

Release Date: Version 2.0 is now scheduled to be released during the first half of 2008 and all existing customers will be automatically transfered to the new version.

Pricing: The price of Version 2.0 remains the same at $365 per year per library.

August 8, 2007 - Standard Service now provides up to 100 megabytes of storage.

The Standard Service, priced at $365 per library per year, had been upgraded to include 100 megabytes of storage. The standard service contains all the modules in the system, including: cataloging, patron management, circulation, reports, inventory, serials tracking, permissions and settings. The standard storage of 100 megabytes is equivalent to approximately 50,000 catalog records. Additional storage can be purchased to handle larger collections.

June 20, 2007 - LibraryWorld Hits 700, Scanners and Hint at new Fall Release

May 10, 2007 - MARC Database Updated

The internal MARC database within LibraryWorld has been updated to include Library of Congress records cataloged in 2005 and 2006. Overall, the database includes nearly 3 million records licensed from the Library of Congress for use in LibraryWorld.com.

For those interested in accessing additional materials through the LibraryWorld service, you will be pleased that we will be implementing a Z39.50 protocol that will allow searching and pulling into your collection records from a large number of internet connected libraries.

This is one of several major enhancements to the service that will be rolled out during the next several months. As usual, these new features and services will automatically be included in your standard subscription service.

March 7, 2007 - LibraryWorld.com passes 500 mark!

LibraryWorld, Inc. today announced that its Web library hosting service 'libraryworld.com' just passed the 500 mark within the first full year of service. Over 500 libraries now use the Web site to automate with no need for expensive hardware, software or networking nightmares. LibraryWorld provides a breakthrough technology and pioneering approach to automating libraries.

"I love LibraryWorld.com for so many reasons I can't count them. It's a web service which makes my collection available on any computer." says Kathy Johnson of the Seattle Academy, Washington State. Another customer notes, "LibraryWorld.com is great. Members can look at our library catalog on-line from a link on our congregation's web site. Then they can use the easy search feature to instantly see the list of books dealing with Lent or those written by C.S. Lewis. Printing a report of all the books in our library by titles or by authors is also very easy from this electronic library," -- Diane Shallue, University Lutheran Church of Hope, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

January 24, 2007 - Checkout by Patron Name

By popular demand, items can now be checked out to a patron by using the patron's name as well as the patron's number. When in checkout mode, enter the patron's number or enter the patron's last name. If there are multiple patrons with the last name, a list will appear to choose the correct full name.

Remember, you can checkout to the 'next' patron simply by entering their number or name without clicking on the checkout link again.

Next - again by popular demand - we are working on a reserve function that will allow one or more patrons to reserve a title that has already been checked out. You should see this new feature sometime in February.

January 14, 2007 - Direct OPAC Access

The Online Patron Catalog (OPAC) module has replaced the standard search only module within the LibraryWorld navigation panel. This allows you to quickly view exactly what patrons see when searching the library. After entering a library, you are now placed in the catalog module by default. Former library home page elements for news, links and subscription information have been moved to the default catalog page display.

Within the next month we'll be adding several new featurees to the circulation module, including the ability to check items out using a patrons name as well as the current patron number.

December 26, 2006 - New Quick Add

The very popular Quick Add function has been merged with the 'New Record' command and enhanced to allow very fast cataloging. Just click on the New Record link in the Catalog Module and you can add new records by searching our database, hand entering, or importing records.

If you have a scanner, you can now scan the ISBN bar code on the back of most books. If you need a scanner, contact LibraryWorld Sales at 1-800-852-2777.

November 30, 2006 - Range Searching

New Feature Alert! LibraryWorld.com now allows range searching of any indexed field in the catalog module. Just click on the range search link in the catalog module, select an index and enter the 'From' and 'To' terms. Range searches of character strings and numbers are supported. All reports and label generation can be limited to the range search findset.

October 24, 2006 - LibraryWorld, Inc. Moves To Internet Hub.

During the month of October, CASPR successfully transferred all its operations over to the same location as the Internet's West Coast switching location called MAE West. We did this to insure that our servers had the best direct access to the Internet. With this move, there is no limit to the growth potential of the LibraryWorld service, in terms of traffic and service reliability. The new location includes server farms and offices for some of the Internet's best known names.

In the heart of the capital of Silicon Valley, CASPR's new location is at 55 S. Market St. Suite 1616, San Jose, CA 95113.

Sept. 7, 2006 - Version 1.3 installed - Uses no Frames.

The upgrade today removed all frames from the standard user interface. This allows a wider variety of Web browsers to use the service and simplifies the user interface to a great extent. Many minor enhancements have also be included in this release.

Now that the no-frames version is available, we will be working on the minor bugs that have been reported during the summer and then moving on to the rather long list of feature requests.

July 20, 2006 - New Version of OPAC

This week the Online Patron Access Program (OPAC) was upgraded to a new release that includes many new features and an enhanced user interface.

The OPAC program can be accessed using the www.lbraryworld.net/opac URL. Just enter the name of the library and optional OPAC password to gain access.

Book spine and pocket label printing was upgraded to support a wider range of Web browsers and printers.

We're still working on the 'frameless' version of the user interface, which is now scheduled for the middle of August. Many feature requests and upgrades will follow this major release.

June 7, 2006 - Batch Inventory

This week the inventory module has been upgraded. You can still scan in bar code numbers one at at time, but now you also have the option of uploading a a text file. The format of the text file is simple, just bar code numbers separated by a carriage return. Once the file is uploaded, an error report can be printed containing any issues; such as unknown bar code numbers or items that have been put on the shelf without being checked in.

The 'Frameless' version of LibraryWorld.net has been delayed until the end of July.

LibraryWorld.net can now be accessed at www.libraryworld.com.

May 22, 2006 - Frames going away.

A minor upgrade was installed late last week which sorts find sets by title in the catalog module. This feature will also be implemented in the Search and OPAC modules.

A major release is forthcoming that illiminates HTML frames from the user interface. Frames can be powerful, but are not supported by all browsers and can cause user interface errors.

May 10, 2006 - Images for different types of materials.

Lots of users have asked us to show different types of images for the different types of library materials.

We have implemented the new images in the library home and catalog modules, but not in OPAC yet. We are also playing with tightening up the user interface so there is not so much white space at the top of pages.

May 4, 2006 - User Interface Style Changes Completed

We've completed the changes to the LibraryWorld User Interface down through the library function levels. Slight tweaking will continue during the next few weeks. We believe these changes make the program easier to use and will allow us to add features in a consistent manner.

And yes, we've added images to both library and user profiles. This makes it easier to tell which account you are signed into and which library you are accessing. It also provides a hint at the multi-media direction we are heading towards.

Please feel free to send comments through the report a bug link.

April 28, 2006 - Two UI Layers Complete.

Home page and user home page have been converted to the new user interface. Use the 'Report a Bug' link to send thumbs up or thumbs down comments.

April 24, 2006 - User Interface Changes Underway

Based on user feedback, the LibraryWorld.net user interface will be upgraded to a more professional blog look. The home page, before and after sign in, will be upgraded first in order to let you review the changes and give feedback. Within a few days after that, the library pages will be changed. These upgrades will allow the eventual dropping of HTML frames, a more tighter user interface and a better path for customization in the future.

April 20, 2006 - LibraryWorld.net Hits Stride

Only six months after release, LibraryWorld.net has established itself as the leading professional Web based library service with over 2,800 registered users and 2,000 libraries. The current version (1.0) provides cataloging, circulation, serials tracking and online patron access features which would normally cost thousands of dollars with traditional systems. This is all provided without expensive software, hardware or networking hassles.
